Aïn Témouchent (in Arabic: عين تموشنت, in Tifinagh: ⵜⴰⵍⴰ ⵏ ⵜⵓⵛⴻⵏⵜ) is an Algerian commune in the wilaya of Aïn Témouchent, located in western Algeria.
Location
Aïn Témouchent is located at the western end of the high plain of the Oran Sahel, whose basin bottom is occupied by the great sebkha of Oran, is 81 km south-west of Oran and 504 km west of Algiers. The site, halfway between Oran and Tlemcen, ordered the construction of a military redoubt in 1843, which was the core of the current city of Aïn-Témouchent.
The city occupies a privileged location due to its proximity to three major cities in western Algeria: Oran, Sidi Bel Abbès and Tlemcen. Due to its crossroads position, to the fertile soil that surrounds it, the city, created in 18514 as a simple population center of 228 fires near the military post, was able to develop rapidly, becoming the economic center of the small region named Bled-Kerkour, or Témouchentois, then a sub-prefecture in 1955, and a chief town of wilaya in 1983.
Relief and geology
The primitive center of Aïn Témouchent is located at an average altitude of 250 meters, on a plateau dominating the confluence of the Sénane wadi and the Témouchent wadi. The plateau culminates in the south, separated from the bed of the two wadis by a steep slope, and drops gently to the north. The small area surrounding the town is rugged, interspersed with hillocks and deep ravines, and the terrain here is predominantly volcanic.
Tourism
In less than twelve kilometers, Ain Temouchent has several seaside resorts such as Rachgoun (vacation center), Plages de Madrid, Beni Saf, Terga, Sassel, Oued El Hallouf, Sebiates, Bouzedjar. Magnificent coast on the Mediterranean extended over 80 km (extension of the Oran coast).
Thermal springs (Hammam Bouhadjar and its hotel complex and Thermal, formerly volcanic area).
Finally, this region offers beautiful landscapes alternating plains, stony plateaus, high hills, mountains, valleys (Tafna Basin and El Malah ex-Rio Salado which has kept all its charm, etc.) and the sea.
