The name of the city Bordj Bou Arréridj is composed of two terms Bordj (fort) and Bou-Arréridj, the name of the tribe which on its territory was the erection of a fort in the Ottoman era.

Geography

 Rental

 240 km east of Algiers and 60 km west of Sétif, it is located in the Medjana plain, between the Bibans mountains to the north and the Hodna range to the south. It occupies a central position in its wilaya.

Weather

The wilaya is characterized by a continental climate, which offers hot temperatures in summer and very cold in winter, among the lowest in Algeria. The annual rainfall is 300 to 700 mm.

 Economy 

The city of Bordj Bou Arreridj has an industrial fabric articulated around an area of economic activities. This area focuses the main industrial activities, it includes more than 200 production companies. A new industrial zone has been created to relieve the industrial zone of the city on the site of Mechta Fatima in the commune of El Hamadia

Before independence, the locality was known for its wheat cultivation, then it experienced significant development in the electronics industry, after the economic opening of the country (Condor, Géant, etc.). From assembly, the factories moved to installation, allowing themselves to create national brands. Now they are manufacturing a variety of products such as air conditioners, refrigerators, televisions, smartphones and laptops.
