Presentation of the wilaya

The wilaya of Illizi (in Arabic : ولاية إيليزي / in Berber : Illizi / in Tifinagh : ⵉⵍⵍⵉⵣⵉ ) is an Algerian wilaya whose capital is the city of the same name , located in the south of the country.

With 284,618 km ² , it is the third largest wilaya by area. It is located in the extreme south-east of the country and it borders with three countries on 1,233 km of border with: Tunisia , Libya and Niger

GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION (Relief-Climate…)

The wilaya is located in the extreme southern part of the country. It is bounded by the following wilayas :
■          To the north by the wilaya of Ouargla
■          To the northeast by Tunisia
■          To the east by Libya
■          To the west by the wilaya of Tamanrasset
■          To the south by Niger.

The capital of the wilaya is located 1877 km south of the capital, Algiers.

Relief:

The wilaya of Illizi is characterized by three main geographical areas:

·         the dunes: in the North, the Grand Erg Oriental which occupies a large part of the municipalities of Debdeb and Bordj Omar Driss ; in the Center, the Ergs Issaouane-Irarren , Issaouane-Tefernine and Bourarhet ; and to the south, Erg d' Admer and Erg Tihodaine ;

·         the plateaux: the Hamada de Tinhert in the North and the Tassili n'Ajjer in the South;

·         the plains: the plain of Admer , located between the communes of Bordj El Haouas and Djanet , covers a small part of the south of the wilaya.

Weather :

The climate of the wilaya is desert and very dry. The rains are extremely irregular. June is the hottest month of the year while January is the coldest. Winds are generally light to moderate.

ECONOMIC POTENTIAL

The wilaya is home to an oil zone in the north which includes a hydrocarbon exploitation industry .

The main craft activities in the region are: working with silver, copper, bronze, leather, dyeing and weaving

Agricultural Potentials

Agriculture plays an important economic role in the wilaya with the breeding of camels .

Agriculture at the level of the wilaya is based on action programs for the development of small agricultural perimeters, which will constitute in the medium term, the second wealth given the existing potentialities in water and land availability.

Industry

Industry is one of the most important economic components in any field, but Illizi State lacks factories for various purposes as the state seems to be a tourist hotspot

The traditional jewelry industry: It is the result of craftsmanship, innovation, and the urgent need of man. It is old and officially present in the life of the Tuareg, where craftsmen make leather from tanning, forming furs, tents, and various barricades for we find the textile industry since the formation of wool and its beads, and the making of traditional jewelry Peace, war, swords, spears, and whatever a person needs in their life

As for modern industry, it is concentrated in the north, where it is active in the extraction and liquefaction of oil and natural gas, oil and its refining, the extraction of crude oil and its sale on the world market. to the price of gold and the generation of profits that benefit the economy of the country as a whole.

Hydraulic

The main wadis are: Lmihrou , Djerat , Tafassasset and Tarat and Takhemalt .

Road network

Airport infrastructure:

The airport network of the wilaya of Illizi consists of nine (09) aerodromes of different categories:
-           A national class aerodrome in Illizi

Four dirt airfields: Illizi (former airport, BORDJ Omar DRISS, OUED ARIKINE and DEB DEB )
-           Two airfields for restricted use: RHOUD-ENNOUS and STAH.

TOURIST ACTIVITIES

Illizi is full of great tourist capacities due to its multiple landscapes (sand dunes in the north, central area of Hamada and Tassili in the south), its local folklore, its cultural activities, its sites, landmarks and industries. traditional

The mountains of Tassili n'Ajjer conceal rock engravings and paintings dating back to the age of polished stone.
