Mascara (in Arabic: مـعـسـكـر; in Berber: ⵎⵄⴻⵙⴽⴻⵔ), is an Algerian commune in the wilaya of Mascara, of which it is the capital. it is one of the important cities of the north-west of Algeria, it is located 97 km south-east of Oran.

It is located in the northwest of Algeria, 360 km west of Algiers and 97 km south-east of Oran on the southern slope of the Beni-Chougrane mountains which are part of the chain of the Tellian Atlas and dominating the plain of Ghriss to the South

Economy:

A region with an agricultural vocation, the sector remains one of the main providers of employment in the town, but SMEs are emerging in the construction and industrial sector, such as the Taqa Invest group, which started in the agricultural sector before becoming a major player in the distribution of fuels under the Petroser brand.

Agriculture

71% of the municipal territory is made up of agricultural land, i.e. 55 km2, of which 35 km2 is in the plain of Ghriss.

It is mainly market gardening, potatoes but also arboriculture and vines.

Industry 

The city has had an industrial zone (170 ha) and two adjoining business zones (10 ha) since 1987. There is a packaging manufacturing unit, Polyma Industries, and a coffee roaster, COMALCAF.

Since the mid-2000s, several construction companies have emerged, such as the Mezoughi group or the ETP Benfreha Abdelkader.

The Taqa Invest group has a manufacturing unit for LPG and fuel storage and transport equipment there.
