Presentation of the wilaya

The wilaya of Saïda (in Arabic : ولاية سعيدة      / in Berber : Tamnaḍt n Saïda / in tifinagh : ⵜⴰⵎⵏⴰⴹⵜ l ⵙⴰⵢⴷⴰ ), is an Algerian wilaya whose capital is the city of the same name and located in the west of the country.            

The Wilaya is located in the Western Hauts-Plateaux of the country.
It is limited by : - 
 To the east by the Wilayas of Tiaret and Relizane;
- To the west by the Wilaya of Sidi Bel Abbes;
- North by the Wilayas of Mascara;
- To the south by the Wilaya of Saida.

The capital of the Wilaya is located 432 km west of the capital, Algiers.
The Wilaya covers an area of ​​5536.73 km2. 

The wilaya of Saïda has 6 daïras including 16 municipalities.

GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION (Relief - Climate, etc.) 

Saida is characterized by a mountainous and steppe zone whose soil is made up mainly of plateaus, and also marked by the passage of the mountainous series Atlas Saharien.It is also characterized by a continental climate with a cold winter and a hot summer.

The wilaya stretches from the Dahia mountains in the north to the high Plateaus  region in the south.  

Forests cover a quarter of the total area of ​​the wilaya.

Weather

The climate is semi-arid, hot and dry in summer and cold in winter with frequent frosts. The average rainfall is around 348 mm / year 

NATURAL POTENTIALITIES

Forests

The wilaya has one of the great forest potentials of western Algeria with Sidi Bel Abbes and Tlemcen. Indeed, its forest heritage covers a total area of ​​156,401 Has all plant formations combined.
To this, we must add a steppe zone of 120,000 ha, of which 29,000 ha of alfatier aquifers potentially exploitable for industrial and artisanal needs.

ECONOMIC POTENTIALITIES

Agricultural potentials

 the wilaya of Saida is an agro-pastoral zone specializing in the production of cereals in view of the fertility of its soil, it is renowned in the field of animal husbandry

Agro-pastoral activity is considered as an essential production of the wilaya although there is, however, market gardening, arboricultural and pastoral know-how. The short and medium term approach would mainly be:
- Integrated development agriculture - pastoralism,
- Agricultural development in relation to water availability,
- A pastoral development taking into account the constraint of protection of the rangelands and which associates the main actor, namely: the farmer.

Industry

 Saida has significant economic facilities including several large-scale national and private companies the wilaya has two activity zones

ECONOMIC, ADMINISTRATIVE AND SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURES

Hydraulic 

Among the specificities of the wilaya, there is the rich water potential, both thermal and mineral.
The thermal waters are more or less exploited within the framework of hydrotherapy hence the stations of Hammam Rabbi and Sidi AISSA

 The wilaya of Saida is rich in groundwater, and in wadis which we site wadi of Hounet and that of Hamam

the wilaya includes the following dams :     

·         Kef Bouali dam  .

·         Ouled Brahim hill retention.

·         Doui Thabet hill retention.

Road network 

Rail network
The wilaya also has a 133 km long rail network. This network should be extended in the medium term. Main railway lines:
- EI-MOHAMMADIA-SAIDA
- SAÏDA-BECHAR
- SAÏDA-KHELFELLAH (BOURACHED REGION)
- EI-HASSASSNA-AÏN-LAHDJAR

Airport network
There is an aerodrome at the level of the wilaya but which is not functional located at the level of the commune of RABAHIA.

Health  

The wilaya has : 

Ahmed Medeghri hospital with a capacity of 600 beds

30 health centers.

02 centers for the deaf and dumb.

01 protection center for the elderly   

TOURIST ACTIVITIES

The wilaya of Saida has qualifications that allow it to be an attraction for tourists thanks to its picturesque natural sites, its mineral springs known throughout the country, its dazzling steppe zone and its archaeological sites, some of which are prehistoric.
