Presentation of the wilaya

The wilaya of Sétif (in Arabic : ولاية سطيف     , in Tifinagh : ⵜⴰⵡⵉⵍⴰⵢⵜ I ⵣⵟⵉⴼ 2 ) is an Algerian wilaya , located east of Algiers . The wilaya of Sétif has 60 municipalities, extending over 6,500 km 2 , for a population of 1,489,979 inhabitants in 2008 , which ranks it 3rd after the wilaya of Algiers and Oran .               

The wilaya of Sétif is made up of 20 daïras (administrative districts) • each comprising several municipalities • for a total of 60 municipalities.      

GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION (Relief-Climate…) 

The territory of the wilaya is covered with fir forests in the north. It is crossed by the Tell Atlas , the highest point of the wilaya being Mount Babor at an altitude of 2,004 m north of the wilaya in Petite Kabylie .      

The wilaya is located in the northeast of the country on the Hauts-Plateaux. It is limited by the following wilayas:
• In the North: by Jijel
• To the East: by Mila
• To the South: via Batna and Msila
• To the West: by Bordj-Bou-Arreridj
The capital of the wilaya is located 300 km east of the capital, Algiers.

Relief:

Zone of the high plains : it occupies the central region whose altitude varies between 800 and 1300 m. 

At the level of this zone emerge some mountain massifs :  

• to the north : Jebel Megress, 1737 m (Ain Abessa) ;  
• to the east : djebel Braou, 1263 m (Bazer Sekra) ;  
• to the south : Jebel Boutaleb Aferhane, 1886 m ( Boutaleb ) ;  
• in the center : djebel Youcef Aferhane, 1442 m (Guedjal, Bir Haddada ).  

Weather :

The climate is continental with hot, dry summers and harsh winters. The rainiest month is April and the driest is July.

ECONOMIC POTENTIAL

The wilaya of Sétif has a fairly significant soil potential with The existence of an industrial base on the other hand Sétif has significant tourist potential

Agricultural Potentials

An agricultural area of ​​360,968.07 hectares, including 23,994.64 hectares of irrigated land. This agriculture is essentially based on cereal growing.

Sheep farming is widespread in the Sétif region.

Cattle breeding is highly developed in the most favorable peri-urban areas where there are irrigated fodder crops or grasslands along the wadis. 

Goat farming alone is more prevalent away from the city, in forested and hilly areas

Poultry farming (poultry farming) is developing rapidly, 

Beekeeping is very rare in the agricultural landscape of Sétif. 

Industry

An industrial base inherited from the four-year plans, particularly in the field of plastics, to which are added a few various industries created by the private sector in food processing, textiles, building materials, thanks to the creation of two warehouse and activity areas , can ensure the distribution and spin-off of industrial activities.
