Presentation of the wilaya

The wilaya of Adrar  in Berber : ⵜⴰⵎⵏⴰⴹⵜ ⵏ ⴰⴷⵔⴰⵔ ; in Arabic : ولاية أدرار        ) Is a wilaya of Algeria , located in the southwest of the country, in the Sahara , it is sparsely populated, with regard to its size (427 368 km 2 ).     

Adrar / adhrar is a singular masculine noun (plural : idourar / idhourar ). This Berber word means " mountain ", a unique and almost general word throughout the Berber country.        

The wilaya of Adrar is spread over four geographic areas : 

• the Gourara , the region of Timimoun  
• the Touat , the region of Adrar 
• the Tidikelt , the Aoulef region 
• the Tanezrouft , the Bordj Badji Mokhtar region  

GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION (Relief - Climate, etc.) 

The wilaya is located in the southwest of the country.
She is limited:
- In the North: the Wilaya of El BAYADH
- To the north-west, the wilaya of Bechar
- In the north-east: the wilaya of Ghardaïa
- To the west: the wilaya of Tindouf
- In the south east: the wilaya of Tamanrasset.
- In the south: Mali and Mauritania

The wilaya covers an area of ​​427,368 km2

Weather

The climate of the Wilayat of Adrar varies, due to the vastness of its surface. Although the dry desert climate predominates, three regions can be distinguished  

Semi-desert climate : it is predominant in the northern regions of the state, i.e. north of the Guara region , and characterized by hot summers and mild and cold winters. sudden   

Desert climate : prevails in most parts of the state and is characterized by very hot summers and mild winters 

Subtropical climate : hot and humid summers and dry winters, seasonal rains fall in summer 

  NATURAL POTENTIALITIES

The Algerian desert ecosystem is very fragile and despite all the authorities' attempts to protect it, desertification continues to threaten many oases with disappearance. To protect the diversity biological of the area ( plants and animals ) in addition to the water , farmers in the area have worked with the support of the authorities to enlarge the existing oases, add new newly recovered areas and use of technical irrigation economic .                   

Plant cover In addition to the oases ( subsistence agriculture ), there is a wild plant cover in the state, in particular the border pastures in the region of Bordj Badji Mokhtar and Timiaouine , and we mention among the plant species: Al- Ratum, Acacia , Saliva, Aristida and others.          

The breeding extends over Berara and the pastures of Adrar many animal species are: fennec , deer , gerbils , desert sea urchin , beauty , Aldharban and various species of horned reptiles              

ECONOMIC POTENTIALITIES 

Agricultural potentials

Most of the inhabitants of the wilaya of Adrar are interested in irrigated subsistence agriculture which primarily meets the needs of the population. adrar is considered one of the agricultural resources in Algeria due to the availability of large quantities of groundwater, which facilitates the process of reclamation of desert lands. However , the weakness of agricultural marketing is an obstacle to the prosperity of intensive agriculture          

In the context of breeding, Bordj Badji Mokhtar is considered the first in the state. And there is an annual event called the Camel Festival.

Traditional industry is one of the most important components of the state's local economy. It still represents a source of livelihood for many families, in addition to being a source of attraction for tourists who visit the region to enjoy the local heritage. which preserves its authenticity in most of the state palaces. We find traditional industries: pottery , textile industry , leather , jewelry , traditional clothes.           

ECONOMIC, ADMINISTRATIVE AND SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURES

Despite the lack of surface water that can meet the growing demand for drinking water, most municipalities and state palaces are supplied with drinking water, thanks to the water table, the volume of which is estimated at forty trillion. m3    

The wilaya is home to the Saoura wadi .

TOURIST ACTIVITIES

The wilaya Adrar is an important tourist destination in Algeria, due to its availability on all elements of desert tourism .   

Palaces There are several magnificent archaeological monuments, such as the palaces of Timimoun and others.   

Nature is evident in the oases stretching from the far corner of the wilaya in the north of the state to the borders of the Tideklet region, in addition to the cave of the palace of Tamaskhet, petrified trees and caves. of Sharf in the Ulf region   

Hotels and camps There are two famous hotels in the Wilayat of Adrar, the Toat hotel in Adrar and the Guarara hotel in Timimoun        

There are also several camps, which are Camp Maraqen in Adrar, Camp Al-Nakhil and Camp Wardet Al-Remal in Timimoun.
